A photograph around 1872 of Collins Street looking west. The photograph was taken from the corner of Swanston and Collins Streets. The next street is Elizabeth Street and it is the lowest point in this photograph, and you can see how it would act as the main drain of Melbourne during floods.
The notes from the State Library tell us that this image is a "Photograph of Collins Street from Swanston Street, Melbourne, ca. 1872. Shows buildings including Staffordshire House and W. H. Rocke & Co. Several horse and carriages can be seen along the street."
